The North Miami girls and Columbus boys came out on top at the Guy Thomas Memorial Classic, but Southwest Florida athletes showed their mettle in a fierce field at Dunbar High School on March 21.
The event is named after the longtime Dunbar track and field coach Guy Thomas, who passed away in 2021. Thomas, who died at the age of 51, coached numerous state champions, guided his teams to top finishes at states and earned The News-Press Coach of the Year honors six times.
