36 In 35—The Nor-Tech 3600 Supercat Pounced

For the most part, this series on the 36 models Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats has produced in the past 35 years has progressed from most-to-least-recent introduction. But with the Nor-Tech dealers and customers heading to the Westin Cape Coral Resort this weekend for the Southwest Florida company’s dealer meeting, owners rendezvous and 35th anniversary celebration, now’s the perfect time for a throwback installment.

And what could be more ideal for trip down Nor-Tech lane than the 3600 Supercat? The company introduced the model in 2003, and shortly thereafter a 36-footer dubbed Perfect Storm and owned by New Jersey’s performance-boat fan Bob Christie graced the cover of Powerboat magazine. The cat boasted an outrageous paintjob from Dean Loucks of the Art of Design.

No one at the magazine had seen anything like it.

Perfect Storm was Christie’s first catamaran. One test ride in another 3600 Supercat with Schou was enough to convince the longtime V-bottom man—his current ride at the time was an Outerlimits V-bottom—that he had to own one. Then the head of Nor-Tech’s in-house engine program, Ron Potter built the cat’s 1,000-hp mills…
