Fort Wayne Zoo’s bat-eared fox gives birth to 5 kits

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne Zoo recently welcomed five additions to its African Journey exhibit.

The zoo announced Thursday its bat-eared fox Ripley recently gave birth to five kits. She and the father, Mkhuseli, are first-time parents.

Almost exactly a year ago, Wild on WANE coverage showcased the pair in their habitat. Zoo officials said at the time that Ripley and Mkhuseli, also known as Mak, were recommended through the species survival plan to have kits. It’s a plan the zoo was hopeful for that has now been fulfilled.

In Thursday’s announcement, the zoo asked visitors to be patient when trying to see the babies, as there is a chance they may be in their indoor habitat instead of outside as they move about and acclimate. Bat-eared foxes are also nocturnal and may spend most of the day resting…
