AUBURN, Ind. (WANE) – The evolution of automobiles is woven into the city of Auburn’s legacy, and a race track could be the next chapter of that history. Months after the announcement of the planned Auburn Motorsports Park, where does the project stand?
Chuck Surack said in a podcast earlier this month that he still hoped to break ground this year but alluded to issues acquiring the land. Surack and two other businessmen, Bill Bean and Tom Kelley, announced in December the plans to create the attraction where Kruse Auction Park used to be.
Goodbye southwest racetrack, hello Auburn Motorsport Park
Speaking with Gerry Dick on the Business & Beyond podcast, Surack estimated the project would total between $200-300 million with the fully-realized vision years down the road including developments such as condominiums and a hotel to accommodate the anticipated tourism. The initial investment was listed at $100 million and touted as an economic boost that could start to benefit DeKalb County as soon as 2028.
In the podcast, Surack described the race track would be sitting on a 300-acre property, including a course more than 3 miles long with the capacity to divide it in two for separate events.
