Lengthy investigation led to arrest

In mid-June 2026, Madison Police Department (MPD) Detective J.D. Sweet began an investigation into a residence located in the 300 block of Fairmount Drive after receiving complaints of suspicious activity. As a culmination of investigation, Detective Sweet sought a search warrant for the aforementioned residence, which was reviewed and granted by the Honorable D.J. Mote of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Due to information received during the investigation and potential dangers inside of the residence, the Indiana State Police (ISP) Swat Team was utilized to execute the search warrant.
When the ISP Swat Team arrived, they began calling out any individuals who were inside of the residence. Jerry C. Diaz, 52, of Madison, exited the residence and was taken into custody. When no other individuals exited the residence, ISP Swat made entry inside, where officers located Marcelino Rodriguez, 49, Fort Wayne, barricaded inside of a bedroom. Rodriguez refused commands to exit the bedroom and was apprehended by an ISP Swat K-9. After the residence was cleared, Zaid I. Diaz, 18, Madison, arrived home and was detained by officers…
