City moves forward with Coliseum Blvd. pedestrian bridge

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne is one step closer to the construction of a $7 million bridge that will allow Pufferbelly Trail users to cross over Coliseum Boulevard.

“Coliseum Boulevard, as we all know, is maybe the busiest, other than 69 of course, but it’s the busiest road in Fort Wayne, and it’s one of the busiest in northern Indiana,” said Dawn Ritchie, Fort Wayne Greenways manager. “So, to get our trail over Coliseum Boulevard in a safe manner was so critically important to both Mayor Tucker and, of course, former Mayor Henry. It was very important to him to build a pedestrian bridge here.”

During Tuesday’s Fort Wayne City Council meeting, an agreement was preliminarily approved for the construction inspection and management of the Pufferbelly Trail Pedestrian Bridge. In short, the agreement will bring in Engineering Resources to oversee the project.

They not only designed the bridge that will be built, but several others you would recognize around Fort Wayne, including the Veterans’ Memorial Bridge over the St. Mary’s River, the Parker-Cole Crossing over Coliseum Boulevard (sometimes called Nessie), and the other two Purdue Fort Wayne pedestrian bridges that cross the St. Joseph River and Crescent Avenue…
