FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A cultural project that has been years in the making for the Miami Nation is now in the formal planning stages.
The tribe announced Tuesday it was able to reclaim a property in Fort Wayne after submitting a non-gaming fee-to-trust application to the federal government. The 22 acres of undeveloped land sit along the west bank of the St. Marys River, not far from the existing Waynedale property where events such as Miami Indian Heritage Days are held.
The Miami Nation said in a press release it plans to transform the site on 4900 De Forest Ave. into a public park and walking trails. An exact timeline has not been disclosed, but the tribe said the land will eventually be used for cultural education…
