FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The Fort Wayne Zoo says Penny the Ostrich will head back to her habitat this week after her wing was hurt as her care team was intervening in her attempt to eat a plastic cup.
The veterinarian at the zoo says a plastic cup blew into her African Veldt habitat on July 23. As ostriches are opportunistic eaters, the zoo says Penny attempted to swallow the cup.
Her Animal Care & Health Teams immediately intervened to remove the plastic from her esophagus, preventing her from completely swallowing the item, Fort Wayne Zoo Associate Veterinarian Dr. Caitlin Hemby said…
