GREENE COUNTY, Ind. — Two people were killed and another person was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 69 in Greene County Saturday morning.
According to a notification from the Indiana Department of Transportation, I-69 was shut down in both directions at mile marker 93 around 10:20 a.m. INDOT reported that the reasons for the interstate’s closure were a crash and vehicle fire.

Subsequent notifications from INDOT suggest a bridge was struck during the crash, which required an inspector to be called to the scene. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) was also called to the scene to help clean up hazardous materials that were spilled during the crash.
The northbound lanes of the interstate opened around noon. All lanes of the road opened after 7 p.m., meaning interstate traffic was impacted by the crash and fire for more than eight hours.
