CINCINNATI (WANE) – The Komets are heating up after earning a 2-0 win at Cincinnati on Saturday. Fort Wayne has won four of their last five games since returning from the ECHL All-Star break, including a five-game points streak.
Fort Wayne capitalized on the power play in Saturday’s win, scoring both goals with the one-man advantage. Alexis D’Aoust scored his second goal in as many nights to put the Komets ahead, 1-0, at the first intermission.
Facing a 5-on-3 midway through the second period, Komets goalie Ryan Fanti helped Fort Wayne kill a pair of penalties and keep the 1-0 lead. Ethan De Jong scored with 3:30 left in the second period to double the Komets’ lead.
Meanwhile, Fanti earned a shut out in his second start since returning to the Komets lineup. The goalie made 23 stops in Saturday’s win.
The Komets and Cyclones collide again on Friday at 8 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum. Fort Wayne will wear special jerseys as part of “Komets Fight Hockey Night.”
