FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Body cam footage shows a Fort Wayne Police officer rescuing two dogs from an icy pond Sunday morning.
Shortly after 7:30 a.m., a nearby resident reported that a dog may have fallen through the ice at Reservoir Park, saying they heard a dog barking and saw something black in the water at the park, according to a release from FWPD.
Officer Trent Hullinger responded and found two black labs in the northeast part of the reservoir.
The release said both dogs appeared to be unable to get themselves out, as their heads were above the water with their front paws holding onto the concrete edge of the pond.
The temperature was about 34 degrees and the rain was turning into snow, the release said.
According to the release, the friendly labs were turned over to Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control (FWACC) with hopes of reuniting the dogs with their owner or finding them a new home.
I am humbled by the outpouring of positive support for the incident. However, as most officers prefer to stay out of the spot light, I also try to stay out of the light, I just try to be a good person, be the light for the community, and take care of those who need my help (animals included).
