COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WANE) – Columbia City is a win away from earning their first girls basketball sectional title since 2000. The Eagles cruised past Huntington North in the sectional semifinal round, 59-43, for your Highlight Zone Game of the Week.
Four Eagles scored in double figures in Friday’s win. Kyndra Sheets and Butler commit Addi Baxter tied for the team lead with 14 points apiece. Molly Baker and Tessa Tonkel also finished in double figures with 10.
Huntington North was led by Marissa Trout, who scored a game-high 18. Haiden Bailey also finished in double figures with 13.
Columbia City started strong with a 19-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. That lead ballooned to 38-22 at halftime.
Huntington North scored five straight out of halftime to cut the deficit to 11. However, Baxter answered with a personal 7-0 run to stall the Vikings’ momentum. Columbia City never let Huntington North trim the deficit to single digits throughout the second half.
Columbia City hosts Homestead for a 4A sectional title, who topped New Haven in Friday’s other semifinal game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
