‘She is no longer with us’: Man charged with murder claims self-defense in Grabill stabbing death

* **WARNING: The following story contains graphic details***

GRABILL, Ind. (WANE) – He claimed it began while he cut up some onions for dinner.

His girlfriend, the man would go on to tell investigators in newly released Allen Superior Court documents, said he wasn’t cutting them correctly and shoved a crock pot towards him. Then she came at him with a knife, he said.

He grabbed a knife as well and “became defensive,” he told investigators.

Charles Michael Calvert claimed he doesn’t remember anything after that.

Allen County Police investigators, however, say the evidence shows something entirely different happened inside a Grabill home Saturday which left Calvert partially covered in dried blood and his girlfriend dead on the kitchen floor:

1 dead, 1 arrested after stabbing investigation in Grabill

The 60-year-old Calvert is accused of stabbing the woman – likely from behind – before showering to clean himself off and staging some evidence at the scene.

Calvert is now facing a murder charge in connection with the death of the woman, who investigators found dead in a home in the 10500 block of Lagoon Drive around 8:25 p.m. Saturday night.
