The Community Development Division of Fort Wayne is ready to start Phase II of the Pontiac Streetscape project. This phase will extend from Oliver Street to South Anthony Boulevard, following Phase I’s completion last fall. The Pontiac corridor was marked as a significant area for public improvements and business expansion in the Southeast Strategy Update.
The project, with a total estimated cost of $4.9 million, aims to improve pedestrian access and business accessibility. It also plans to promote reinvestment in the corridor. The project features include better sidewalk access, updated traffic lights, traffic management strategies, and an improved streetscape with added trees and green infrastructure.
Mayor Tom Henry expressed his positive outlook on the project, emphasizing the city’s collaborative efforts with residents, neighborhoods, and businesses. He believes this project will benefit Southeast Fort Wayne.
The project is part of a larger plan to promote business growth in the area. By improving pedestrian and vehicular access to businesses, the city aims to encourage reinvestment and create a more active community.
