Bellmont, New Haven wrestling shine at semi-state meet

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Bellmont and New Haven took second and third place, respectively, in the IHSAA wrestling semi-state meet at Memorial Coliseum on Saturday.

The Braves earned 82.5 team points to take second place in Saturday’s meet. Meanwhile, New Haven earned 76 points to finish in third. Delta won the team semi-state championship with a score of 115.

Decorated New Haven junior Julianna Ocampo qualified for the state finals for the third time in as many years. Ocampo finished as semi-state runner-up in the 106-pound weight class, with Delta’s Jensen Boyd winning the individual title.

As for other standouts, Jay County’s Tony Wood (138), New Haven’s Easton Doster (144) and Aidan Elkins (150), Bellmont’s Duke Myers (165), Garrett’s Chase Leech (175), Wabash’s Elias Cressell (190) and Bluffton’s Juan Cruz (285) each won an individual semi-state championship.

The top four place winners from each weight class advance to next weekend’s state finals in Evansville. Next weekend’s state finals brackets will be revealed at 4 p.m. on Sunday by the IHSAA.
