ALBION, Ind. (WANE) — After a round of freezing temperatures struck northeast Indiana, Black Pine Animal Sanctuary in Albion found themselves in a little trouble.
Two of their furnaces went down in the cold, one of them being the heat source in the primate house. The second went down in their commissary area. While a broken furnace isn’t normally a concern for them and their generator, it failed to switch on, resulting in a loss of power. Power is currently restored, but they’re in need of a new furnace.
Their method to combat the loss? Kicking off a series of fundraisers, beginning with a comical twist to Valentine’s day on Wednesday.
For just five dollars, you can purchase a cricket and name it after an ex, co-worker, or anyone who hasn’t ended up on your good side. From there, Black Pine will feed the cricket to one of their insect-loving animals for a Valentine’s Day feast. You’ll be able to watch the feast live on either Facebook or TikTok on Wednesday as the staff members feed the animals and recite the names of the now-eaten crickets.
