FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – One family is working to plan a dream wedding for a Fort Wayne woman battling an aggressive form of cancer. Annie Van Patten was diagnosed with sarcoma – cancer originating in the bones – in November 2022. According to her fiancé, Kevin Nikirk, she went to the doctor complaining of extreme back pain. That’s when a tumor the size of a lemon was discovered against her spinal cord. Since then, the cancer has affected her leg function and hearing.
