EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WANE) – A pair of northeast Indiana standouts made history for their respective schools, as Easton Doster became the first New Haven wrestler to win a state title while Chase Leech won the first state title in Garrett history on Saturday night at the IHSAA state finals in Evansville.
Doster, a junior, won the 144-pound title match by a score of 6-4, finishing his season with a perfect 39-0 record.
Leech, a senior, won the 175-pound title match by a score of 3-2, finishing 42-2 for the year.
Bellmont senior Duke Myers, who has signed to wrestle at Michigan State, finished second in the 165-pound weight class.
Meanwhile, New Haven junior Julianna Ocampo made history by becoming the first female in IHSAA history to finish on the podium, coming in sixth at 106 pounds.
