GALLERY: Shelf cloud photos from Tuesday’s storms

NORTHEAST INDIANA AND NORTHWEST OHIO (WANE) – Strong thunderstorms passed from north to south through the area Tuesday morning into the early afternoon hours. The storms brought heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.

Here is a snapshot of the radar as the storms intersected the area at 10 AM. Notice all of the heavy rain and lightning being detected.

Looking at our rainfall totals, North Webster picked up the most rain through 5:30 PM Tuesday. Cosperville and Warsaw also saw totals over one inch, with Salem Center and Spencerville rounding out the list of top totals.

Some spots saw over an inch of rain from these thunderstorms.

Fort Wayne saw the highest wind gust as the storms passed through. The Fort Wayne International Airport saw a 51 mph gust. Angola and Vera Cruz experienced a top gust in the 40 mph range, while Defiance and Huntington saw a top gust in the 30 mph range.

Winds were strong, but they stayed below severe levels on Tuesday.

The strongest winds were found along the leading edge of the strong thunderstorms as they moved south. This produced a shelf cloud that many of you captured and sent in to us. Take a look at the gallery below! Thank you to everyone for the great pictures!
