HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Indiana is seeing new laws go into effect on July 1. Below is everything you will need to know about these laws.
House Bill 1183: Foreign ownership of land
House Bill 1183 says a prohibited person may not purchase, lease, or acquire property that is located in Indiana and located within a 10-mile radius of a military installation, with certain exceptions.
It also says a prohibited person may not acquire or lease agricultural land or a mineral right or water or riparian right on agricultural land located in Indiana.
A violation of this new law may result in a transfer of the land.
Officials with the Indiana house republicans say Individuals or entities associated with foreign countries like Russia and China will be banned from purchasing or leasing agricultural land, and mineral, water or riparian rights. China, Russia, North Korea and Iran will also be prevented from purchasing or leasing land within a 10-mile radius of military installations.
