9/11 Remembrance Walk and ceremony honors first responders

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The Young Professionals Network of UPSTAR remembers first responders who were killed in 9/11 on Wednesday.

The ceremony kicks off with a Remembrance Walk from the Wells Street Bridge through Promenade Park. As participants arrive at the Law Enforcement Firefighters Memorial of Allen County, Mike Patmore, UPSTAR Board of Directors President, plans to give a speech and conclude the ceremony with laying roses and planting flags at the memorial site.

Patmore said honoring the first responders who died during the September 11 attacks through organizing this event is the least he can do.

“All of the fallen heroes died in service for everybody,” Patmore said. “Whether you’re a firefighter, or a first responder of any kind, you put your life on the line every single day, and that is the definition of service to the community.”

The memorial starts at 10 a.m. at the Wells Street Bridge and continues on to the Law Enforcement Firefighters Memorial of Allen County at 1001 N. Wells St. To register for the event, visit UPSTAR’s website .
