Saint Francis rallies from 21-0 deficit to top Defiance

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – It was a tale of two halves at Bishop D’Arcy Stadium for Saint Francis football. Trailing as much as 21-0, the Cougars climbed back to top Defiance, 64-36, in Saturday’s home opener.

Josh Kulka, who subbed in midway through the first half, sparked Saint Francis’s comeback with passing touchdowns to O’Vauntay Vickers and Adam Smith in the second quarter.

Trailing 21-14 heading into the third quarter, Aidan Ewers snatched a 35-yard pick six to tie the game at 21 apiece. Saint Francis took the lead for good on a short touchdown run by Adam Smith.

Kulka finished his Saint Francis debut with 328 passing yards and five touchdowns, each to a different receiver. David Smith led the Cougars’ rushing attack with 120 yards on 14 attempts. Meanwhile, former Highlight Zone stars Aden Dennis, a Bishop Luers grad, and North Side alum Bohde Dickerson each caught a touchdown pass in Saturday’s win.

Saint Francis (1-1) remains home next weekend to host Siena Heights. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Bishop D’Arcy Stadium.
