Honor Flight #48 whisks veterans away to Washington D.C.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana takes off Wednesday morning as it takes veterans on a day trip to Washington D.C.

The flight is meant to serve as a thank you to those who served, as well as an opportunity for participants to admire the memorials erected in honor of their time in the military.

On the day of, veterans gather at the 122nd Air National Guard base in Fort Wayne and board the airliner for a one hour flight to Ronald Reagan Airport. As they land at Ronald Reagan Airport, veterans will be chauffeured between visitation sites, including the WWII Memorial, Korean, Vietnam and Lincoln Memorials. After a day of touring D.C., participants board the airliner once more and head for home, landing back at the National Guard Base around 8 p.m.

To welcome the Honor Flight back into Fort Wayne, the organization invites supporters to come to Fort Wayne International Airport and cheer veterans on as they disembark from their journey.
