FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Friday was a big day across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio, as the heavens finally opened up and rain fell across some parts of the area.
Expanding drought a concern as fall approaches
For Fort Wayne, this was the first rainfall in September since two weeks ago on September 6th. This ends our September dry stretch at 13 days, one day shy of setting the longest September streak this decade. The airport only picked up 0.02″ of rainfall though, which still places us as currently the 4th driest September on record.
Some select locations got a good soaking from the thunderstorms that moved through. Parts of Kosciusko County saw over an inch of rain! Other areas, like at the Fort Wayne International Airport, saw very little, if any, rainfall, which will not put much of a dent into the drought we have in place.

It was feast or famine with the rainfall on Friday. -
Drought continues to be in place across most of the area.
Unfortunately, the thunderstorms did cause some damage. We received reports of structural and tree damage from parts of Kosciusko and Whitley Counties. The National Weather Service believes a microburst occurred, which is when there is a concentrated area of strong winds that push out of a strong thunderstorm. Take a look at the damage photos we received below. We are thinking of those who experienced damage as a result of the storms.
