FORT WAYNE, Ind. — You may remember hearing about a high-school party in Fort Wayne that left one person dead, and many others injured. Well, police now believe an adult had allowed the event to continue.
The party, which was held at a home on October 19th, had been advertised on social media. Attendees, many of which were in high school, were encouraged to bring their own alcohol and weed.
There, police say 17-year-old Willie Ivy III was shot and killed. Officers think he had brought a gun to the party – even though attendees were being frisked for weapons – and ultimately fired shots.
So, someone shot and killed Ivy. It was later determined that Ivy’s shooter had been acting in self-defense.
Initial reports indicated that the homeowner – later identified as Joanna Eastes – was actually at the home that night, as was her daughter. But, she apparently stayed in her bedroom once things “got out of hand.”
According to court documents, police eventually asked Eastes why she did not take action to stop the party, and she responded with, “What was I supposed to do?”
