LARWILL-Following a 5:00 Executive Session in the Don Wood Room “to discuss initiation of litigation or litigation that is either pending or has been threatened specifically in writing, under IC 5-14-1.5-6.1 (2)(B),” the Whitko Regular School Board Meeting began, with all board members and the interim superintendent present. Public speculation is that the Executive Session was to discuss the January hearing that may be related to the Whitko Classroom Teachers Association grievances from August, mentioned here.
Students of the Month were recognized—a student per grade level in the Middle and High Schools, WCA, and each elementary. As pointed out in last month’s school board article, Mike Hanback and Antimony Fox continue to do the bulk of nominating students for Student of the Month (and also go the extra mile of attending the school board meetings to personally deliver their congratulations to their student every (or nearly every) time, so kudos again to them for their dedication.
- Whitko High School:
-
- Amy Brown, WJSHS senior, nominated by Antimony Fox. Fox described Brown as hardworking, always knowing what’s going on, and being willing to ask questions when needed.
- Alena Hindbaugh, WJSHS junior, nominated by Mike Hanback. Hanback said Hindbaugh (not present) is an example of a lighthearted and wonderful kid who is dedicated to learning.
- Addison Patrick, WJSHS sophomore, nominated by Mike Hanback. Patrick (who was sick and unable to attend) was described as a wonderful student who works hard and asks great questions and an example of the kind of people at Whitko.
- John Deckena, WJSHS freshman, nominated by Molly Long. Long thanked Deckena for joining the meeting straight from basketball practice and said he eagerly shares his insights in class, always volunteers, and sets a positive example for his classmates.
- Whitko Middle School:
-
- Jenna Hubbard, WJSHS eighth grader, nominated by Ashley Hinds. Hinds described Hubbard as a respectful, caring, and helpful student who is actively involved with Cheerleading, Peacekeepers, and Sunshine Society.
- Madalyn Brubaker, WJSHS seventh grader, nominated by Sara Skow. As Skow was not present, J.D. Mauer shared on her behalf that Brubaker (who was also not present) is a great student who goes the extra mile, has a kind heart, and has great attendance and academics.
- WCA:
-
- Alexa Culp, WCA sophomore, nominated by Megan Lindsey. Lindsey described Culp as a leader who gets things done.
- Elementaries:
-
- Brantley Alexander, SWES second grader, nominated by Emily Ross. As Ross was absent, Principal Joel Holsopple described Alexander (who was tidily dressed in a suit) as an amazing leader in school and highlighted his work ethic, specifically his efforts towards keeping the school clean by picking up trash.
- Everly Collins, PES fifth grader, nominated by Samantha Pauwels. Since Pauwels was not present, Principal Christy Haupert spoke of Collins, saying she is a great kid who is always helpful to her classmates when needed.
