Bison spoil Komets’ New Year’s Eve in front of packed crowd

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Despite having 22 more shots on goal than Bloomington, the Komets’ home winning streak was snapped in a 3-2 loss to the Bison on New Year’s Eve.

Tuesday’s loss snaps a five-game home winning streak for the Komets, who had over 10,000 fans in attendance for the holiday.

Bloomington captain Eddie Matsushima scored with less than two minutes to go in the first period, giving the Bison a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Odeen Tufto followed up on a rebound to tie the game at 1-1 midway through the second period. However, Bloomington regained the lead on a second-chance goal from Jared Westcott.

The Komets responded early in the third period, thanks to Alex Swetlikoff’s third goal in three games. Swetlikoff tied the game at 2-2 with 15:22 to go. However, Josh Boyer buried a go-ahead goal with just over nine minutes left to take the lead for good.

Fort Wayne only scored twice despite having 48 shots on goal, compared to 26 from Bloomington.

The Komets host rival Toledo for the first time this season on Friday. That’s followed by a road game at the Walleye and a home game against Cincinnati on Sunday.
