ROCHESTER, Mich. (WANE) – In a battle between two unbeaten teams in Horizon League play, Purdue Fort Wayne flexed its way to a 77-37 win at Oakland on Sunday. The 40-point win marks the Mastodons’ largest margin of victory on the road in the program’s Division I history.
Purdue Fort Wayne sits in sole possession of first place in the conference with a 6-0 record following Sunday’s Horizon League action.
Central Noble grad Sydney Freeman led all scorers with 21 points, hitting five 3-pointers while going 7-of-10 from the floor. Jay County grad Renna Schwieterman scored 11 points and a team-high five assists off the bench. Amellia Bromenschenkel and Lauren Ross also finished in double figures with 10 points apiece.
The Mastodons held Oakland to 16 points in the first half, limiting the Golden Grizzlies to 7-of-23 from the floor. Purdue Fort Wayne’s offense clicked with 40 first half points while hitting 16-of-34 field goals in the first 20 minutes. The Mastodons kept the intensity up in the second half to force 18 Oakland turnovers throughout the game.
