FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — April showers bring May flowers, and some are already in bloom. But before buying a bouquet or planting flowers yourself, consider if a nibble could hurt your furry friend.

Tyna Riter, Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control’s humane education coordinator PIO, said that both in and outside, pet owners need to be aware of what their animals are chewing on. The consequences can range from a ruined landscape plot to life-threatening consequences for your dog or cat.

“You’re going to have puppies that chew on everything,” Riter said. “I would watch them and even kittens when they’re exploring a little more, they have not experienced an upset tummy, they’re a little bit more curious and they’re going to chew on more things…
