Boy re-learning basically everything, after rare diagnosis leaves him with half a brain

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Beckett Murray’s mother Audrey describes him as feisty, crazy and independent. This five-year-old fighter from Fort Wayne, Indiana is just a normal kid who’s been through an experience that’s anything but normal.

“December 10 of 2024 was his first seizure. I took him straight to the ER. He was coming out of it by the time we got there, and it was just completely out of the blue. It lasted a long time, probably like 45 minutes,” Audrey said.

The first doctor Beckett saw thought it was epilepsy, but the seizures kept happening, and the Murray family kept looking for answers. They visited several hospitals before Dr. Marie Clements in Louisville diagnosed Beckett with Rasmussen encephalitis…
