Adams Central Community Schools board accepts Superintendent Joel Mahaffey’s resignation

ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Adams Central Community Schools Superintendent Joel Mahaffey has resigned from his position and on Friday morning the district school board unanimously accepted his resignation. Mahaffey submitted his resignation to the board on Monday.

Mahaffey’s departure comes following his arrest for drunk driving earlier this year, and a previous vote by the school board to retain him following the arrest. The board indicated during Friday’s meeting that the search for an interim superintendent will begin immediately.

In late February, a Markle police officer pulled Mahaffey over for running a stop sign and speeding. According to court documents, he was given a breathalyzer test that registered .115, which is above the legal limit of .08. According to court documents, when the results were shown to him, Mahaffey told the officer, “Oh my God, I have just ruined my f****** career.”

Mahaffey confessed to drinking earlier in the day at a work conference in Indianapolis. He was charged with three counts related to drinking and driving…
