Multi-million dollar fix needed to prevent emergency signals being blocked in Allen County, officials say

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Soon, an emergency communication tower near the General Motors plant in Allen County will be blocked by the landfill on Smith Road. Allen County Sheriff Troy Hershberger says that’s because the landfill is approaching its 1000 ft. limit.

When that happens, Hershberger says the landfill will block the signal from Downtown Fort Wayne from reaching first responders in parts of the county.

The Sheriff says that signal is needed, 24-7, to keep everyone safe, “When a call comes in, a 911 call, the citizens expect to have services arrive to them when needed, and those services are dispatched through communications”…
