Air quality in Fort Wayne drops to a ‘D’, experts urge awareness

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A new report from the American Lung Association reveals a concerning drop in air quality across 21Country, with Allen County’s grade slipping from a ‘B’ in 2024 to a ‘D’ in 2025.

The group recently released its 2025 “State of the Air” report, which uses data from air quality monitors in counties across the U.S. Grades are based on the number of days that a county’s air reaches unhealthy levels on the Air Quality Index.

They provided the following data from the Fort Wayne metropolitan area:

  • Ranked 92 worst for high ozone days out of 228 metropolitan areas
  • Ranked 58 worst for 24-hour particle pollution out of 225 metropolitan areas
  • Ranked 96 worst for annual particle pollution out of 208 metropolitan areas

They say the rankings are based on the average number of unhealthy air quality days in the area…
