IU professor, former Fort Wayne mayor upset at upcoming changes to university’s board of trustees

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – An Indiana University professor and former Fort Wayne mayor is upset at upcoming changes to the university’s board of trustees.

Paul Helmke says the current system – 9 board members, 6 appointed by the governor, and 3 elected by the alumni body – has been in place since the 1890s.

“The legislature, at the last minute, with no debate, no notice, stuck something into the budget bill, giving the governor all the appointments,” Helmke said, speaking of the final days of Indiana’s legislative session…
