Animal Care & Control officers catch 5-foot alligator in Fort Wayne neighborhood

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – An alligator was sent from Fort Wayne to a rescue center after being found in a local neighborhood with the help of Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control (FWACC).

According to a Facebook post from the shelter, a resident last week reported spotting the 5-foot gator in a neighborhood. Two FWACC officers arrived and safely got the gator in a cage while the shelter worked to find him a home.

Although the rescue center wasn’t named, the alligator got settled there on Saturday and will live the rest of his life “in proper accommodations as closely [as possible] to his natural habitat,” according to the post.

FWACC also used the post as a reminder that it is illegal to have a pet alligator in Fort Wayne and New Haven. Outside city limits, a permit must be obtained through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources…
