Hampton Inn in downtown Fort Wayne evacuated after fire breaks out late Friday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — More than 100 people are safe following a fire at a downtown hotel.

In a press release, the Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) states that firefighters were dispatched to the Hampton Inn and Suites on Jefferson Boulevard just before midnight on Saturday, following reports of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they saw people from the seven-story building evacuating. Firefighters did not initially see any fire or smoke, but occupants who had evacuated told them a fire was on the roof.

Multiple units began fighting the fire while simultaneously searching all floors to make sure everyone had evacuated safely. All 149 people had self-evacuated…
