FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating at a home northwest of downtown Fort Wayne Tuesday after reports of a mental health crisis turned into finding a potential “destructive device.”
Officers arrived at a home in the 1500 block of Franklin Avenue in response to the reported mental health crisis. When they went inside to help the person, they located what appeared to be what police described as a “destructive device.”
The FWPD called out a bomb squad — officially known as a hazardous devices unit — to help with the investigation, and the team eventually got the device under control.
Officers also collected guns found in the home under Indiana’s “Red Flag” law…
