FWCS urges release of withheld $4.5M in federal education funding

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — Fort Wayne Community Schools is raising alarms over a delay in releasing nearly $4.5 million in federal funding earmarked for local public and private schools—just weeks before the 2025-26 school year begins.

The district says the money, which was previously approved by Congress, remains in limbo due to undisclosed federal-level issues. The delay threatens to derail a range of educational programs, including adult education, support for English language learners, and teacher training initiatives.

“This congressionally appropriated money now sits in limbo just one month before the school year begins,” FWCS Superintendent Dr. Mark Daniel said in a statement Tuesday. “It threatens essential educational services across our district.”…
