FORT WAYNE — The Fort Wayne Swimming and Wellness Alliance is approaching its $54 million fundraising goal for construction of the new Fort Wayne Aquatic Center, announcing that contributions have surpassed $47 million.
The planned facility will permanently house the competition pool used during the 2024 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials in Indianapolis. Alliance president John Gibson called the campaign a community-driven effort and said organizers are pursuing the final financing needed to begin design and construction.
Last month the Allen County Capital Improvement Board pledged $5 million to the project. Additional support is being sought through another grant and the state’s Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative, or READI 2.0…
