FWPD chief addresses safety downtown amid recent youth violence

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A normal Fourth of July turned hectic for the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD).

“We had officers that reported that, not just firecrackers, but the mortars — the larger-type fireworks — were fired at them,” said FWPD Chief of Police Scott Caudill. “We had an officer report that one was fired at his car.”

And then it turned tragic…
