Northern Indiana Air Alert: Canadian Smoke Aloft to Cause Hazy Conditions by Sunday Afternoon

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Indiana residents will see hazy skies return Sunday as wildfire smoke from Canada drifts back over the Great Lakes region, bringing reduced visibility and muted sunshine through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the smoke is expected to remain aloft and not mix down to the surface, meaning no major air quality concerns at this time. Still, the upper-level haze could dim sunlight and reduce visibility, especially during sunrise and sunset. The smoky conditions arrive alongside a stretch of dry weather and highs in the mid-to-upper 80s.

Communities including South Bend, Fort Wayne, and Warsaw can expect filtered sunshine starting Sunday afternoon. Drivers should use caution on rural roads where haze could impact long-distance visibility. While the weekend heat will ease slightly Sunday with highs around 82–86°F, temperatures are expected to rebound Monday into the upper 80s…
