Catholic Charities asks for help collecting school supplies for kids after grant cut

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Catholic Charities’ Auburn office is reaching out to the community for help supplying hundreds of kids with school supplies.

Catholic Charities of Fort Wayne-South Bend’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is turning to the community for support after not receiving its usual annual grant. The RSVP runs the “Pack-A-Backpack” program that donates over 300 kids backpacks full of supplies each year. Due to a grant being cut, the Auburn office turns to its community to help supply the schoolchildren this year.

“This program means so much to Catholic Charities and the RSVP participants who hand out the backpacks each year,” said Aaron Roberts, Associate Director of Catholic Charities’ North Region office. “We love the smiles on students’ faces, knowing the backpacks help them feel prepared and confident for the school year. We don’t want this year to be any different, so we are calling on the community to chip in to ensure students start this school year on the right foot.”…
