The July 25, 1957 edition of the Citizen-Times reported that Postmaster C.M. Carter Jr. presented awards to members of the postal staff, being the “Safe Driver Award” from the National Safety Council.
The emblems had numbers on them, corresponding to each recipients’ years of service, with every employee receiving a certificate signed by Ned H. Dearborn, the president of the National Safety Council, and by Postmaster General Arthur E. Summerfield.
