Golfer’s Guide to Fort Wayne

If you’ve tuned in to Stick on Apple TV+, starring Owen Wilson, you’ve probably noticed that it’s set right here, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The show’s creator and executive producer, Jason Keller, attended Ball State and had friends in Fort Wayne. His fond memories of the city led to its selection as Stick’s setting. And while the show wasn’t filmed here—that was done in Vancouver, British Columbia—there’s plenty for golf lovers to appreciate in the Summit City.

Fort Wayne Golf Courses

I talked to David Belville, Golfing Pro at Urban Golf at The Fairfield in downtown Fort Wayne, to get his thoughts on golfing in the Fort. Our city has 18 golf courses (9 public, 4 municipal, and 5 private), and Belville says that there are golf courses for everyone; your choice really depends on the price point and course type that you want. If you’d like a really good course at a good price, give Riverbend a try. For a slightly higher price and quality level, consider Autumn Ridge. He pointed out Brookwood, near the airport, as an excellent course. And if you’d like a lower price point but still a good course, try out Colonial Oaks. “It all depends on what you’re looking for,” Belville says.

Fort Wayne Simulators

Since Belville works at Urban Golf, he is naturally a fan of the multi-sport simulator. Golf lovers will want to stop by The Fairfield’s second floor for Urban Golf, which features 8 bays and 85 courses. You can play on a league or just for fun. And you have many options other than golf, including baseball, football, skee-ball, soccer, and more. You can even take lessons from Belville. The swanky bar on the premises gives a relaxed country club feel for drinks or a meal.

There are other simulators in The Fort; consider Touchet Performance Golf on the south side of town, Golf Garage farther north, or a larger facility in Churubusco, Eel River. Simulators let you practice your swing year-round, without interference from the elements.

Fort Wayne Golf Shops

Stick features Owen Wilson as a former professional golfer who works at a sporting goods store. Here in the Fort, golf afficionados won’t want to miss stores like these.
