FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, the rates of violent crime in Fort Wayne are down compared to last year. However, there has been an uptick in the number of young people engaging in violent behaviors, which is leading to increased downtown patrols and security at some events.
WANE 15 reached out to the FWPD on deterrence initiatives aimed at downtown violence.
“It started three years ago with promenade Park,” said Sgt. Jonathan Cutler with FWPD. “We noticed we were having a lot of youth activity there, doing things that we didn’t want people doing. So we started a patrol down there. It consists of two patrol officers and a sergeant and runs through the weekends for the entire summer.”…
