‘Heartbreaking and unfair’: Junior Olympic runner from Fort Wayne reflects on being stranded before national meet

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A dream trip to the Junior Olympics turned into a nightmare for a Fort Wayne family after a track team’s bus broke down on the way to nationals.

Genesis Anderson, a junior Olympic sprinter with the XCelerate Track Club, was traveling to Savannah, Georgia, with her team to compete in three events at the USA Track and Field National Championships. But just hours into the trip, their charter bus broke down in southern Ohio, leaving 30 young athletes stranded.

With no immediate solution, the team spent nearly two full days trying to make it to the competition, resting at a local bowling alley, changing buses, and even switching drivers…
