Man gets down from bridge safely after police swarm State Boulevard

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne police, firefighters and medics swarmed State Boulevard Wednesday morning in response to a man on a bridge. After some time of coaxing by a crisis response team, the man got down safely.

A passing driver told police that on the trail overpass near Wells Street, a man was sitting on the bridge railing shortly before 11 a.m. A WANE 15 crew at the scene could hear the man yelling from the bridge, threatening to jump.

Traffic was shut down on both sides of State between Wells and Clinton streets as authorities tried to get him to come down. Around 11:30 a.m., the man – described by authorities as a young adult – came down safely and was taken into custody for a mental health evaluation…
