FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — A small section of trail in downtown Fort Wayne has been the talk of City Council for several weeks. However, all of the buildup ended silently as the resolution to fund a new section of the Urban Trail was pulled from Tuesday’s agenda.
That section would have run along Superior Street between Clinton and Lafayette streets – and after multiple holds and an unconventional reconsideration taken in late July, Alec Johnson, Fort Wayne’s Redevelopment Director, is looking for time to redesign the project to fit the “scope” City Council desires.
“The Urban Trail construction contract on Superior Street will not be on the City Council agenda for reconsideration this week. In collaboration with Councilwoman Michelle Chambers, Community Development staff determined that our focus should now shift to completing a revised scope of work for the trail construction,” Johnson said via a press release “We will focus on working with our engineering firm to redesign the trail to accommodate the revised scope preferred by most City Council members, and the revised scope will be rebid as soon as possible.”
That revised scope will most likely take into consideration the cost and use concerns council members have had since the section of the trail was introduced.
