‘Armed career criminal’ handed 35-year sentence for dealing drugs to undercover Fort Wayne officer

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A Fort Wayne man who has spent most of his life in and out of prison, and who was labeled an “armed career criminal” by the U.S. Department of Justice, was sentenced this week to decades of prison time.

A judge in U.S. District Court sentenced 43-year-old Detric L. Cummings to 35 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

In 2022, Cummings sold methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl to an undercover Fort Wayne police officer over the course of several deals while armed with a gun. On one occasion, he sold the officer a revolver, according to the DOJ…
