Remembering Tony Hawk’s visit to Fort Wayne 20 years ago

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — In 2003, the Tony Hawk Foundation — now known as The Skatepark Project — provided a $25,000 grant to fund part of the construction of Lawton Skatepark.

A few years later, the legendary skateboarder decided to test out the park himself.

Hawk, along with other well-known skateboarders such as Bob Burnquist, Ryan Sheckler and Bam Margera, descended upon Fort Wayne in September 2005 as part of a “Secret Skatepark Tour” that aimed to promote his latest video game, “Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland.”

Throughout a short documentary on the visit, multiple pieces of the Summit City can be seen, whether it be the noise barriers along Jefferson Boulevard and Illinois Road or businesses along Wells Street…
